If you are looking forward to a relaxing yet active holiday in one of the most beautiful places in the Mediterranean, look no further than a stay in the stunning Portuguese town of Albufeira. From Foia to the sea To get your biking legs going once you have arrived on the Faro Airport to Albufeira transfers, you may want to start with this easy ride. Get a lift to the nearby town of Monchique and take a bit of time to explore – you'll be able to appreciate the differences between a coastal and inland Portuguese town. Then cycle up to the top of Foia, a nearby peak which, at 900 metres above sea level, is the highest in the Algarve. From here, take the easy route back down to the sea (with only a bit of uphill riding), taking advantage of the many points along the way to stop and enjoy the scenery. This journey is about twenty-two kilometres long and is a perfect intro to biking in the area. The Ecovia do Litoral route Even if you choose not to take the Faro Airport to Albufeira transfers, you can still get to Albufeira by the relatively new coastal path called the Ecovia do Litoral – although we wouldn't recommend doing this with luggage! The route is a coastal path that begins in Faro and runs westward, winding you along the shore and taking you by golf courses and resort towns, giving you ample opportunity to stop along the way. Spend the night in Albufeira and, if you want, you can continue westwards through the Marina and the nature reserve at Salgados.
