When most people think about acupuncture, they tend to relate it with pain management treatment. At our acupuncture practice in Eastlake, California, many of our clients do see us for treatment of back pain, low back pain, migraines and arthritis, but acupuncture can actually treat a diverse range of ailments, both physical and mental. There are no specific set of conditions that acupuncture is meant to treat. Rather, it is an ancient art that administers relief to various parts of the body and psyche depending on how the acupuncturist applies the needles. In fact, acupuncture has been used to treat conditions such as anxiety and depression, gastrointestinal disorders, metabolic disorders, respiratory issues and much more. Anxiety and Depression We all feel anxious and sad at certain times or in reaction to personal tragedy, but for some, these negative feelings are chronic and can prevent them from fully enjoying their lives. Some patients suffering from anxiety or depression choose acupuncture treatment because they do not want to take medication. Those suffering from severe anxiety or depression should strongly consider speaking with a doctor, but for others with general or mild distress, acupuncture can be a natural remedy. Gastrointestinal Disorders A lot of our clients are surprised to discover that acupuncture can treat gastrointestinal disorders, such as diarrhea, constipation, consistent heartburn, gas and bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s Disease and Celiac Disease. Patients should not feel ashamed about discussing these conditions with an acupuncturist. There are specific areas on the body that, when stimulated with a needle, can help ease gastrointestinal discomfort and regulate the body’s natural systems. Metabolic Disorders Metabolic disorders such as hypo- and hyperthyroidism, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, diabetes and anemia can each be treated with acupuncture. All of these metabolic disorders cause troublesome symptoms in patients, including tiredness, pain, weakness and weight gain. Use of acupuncture can help strengthen and stabilize the body’s metabolic system to decrease symptoms and flair-ups from these conditions. Respiratory Disorders Common respiratory disorders like asthma, allergies and sinus problems often respond well to acupuncture. Several lung meridians lay across the human body (mostly in the right arm and left wrist), which can help stimulate the lungs and help treat lung and respiratory disorders. After treatment, our patients often report that it is much easier to breath and that asthmatic, allergic and sinus reactions are not as common or as severe. No matter what condition you suffer from, it is likely that it can be treated with acupuncture. To find out, give us a call at (619) 470-2094 to schedule a consultation.
