"We did a real good job of making sure our focus was where itneeded to be today," said Canadian coach Brent Sutter. "We played areal solid 60 minutes and it's a tremendous credit to the playersthat they handled it the right way." Devan Dubnyk stopped all 24 shots he faced while Dion Phaneufscored twice as Canada spread its offence around. Kazakhstan arrived at this tournament looking to earn respect fromthe top hockey nations and managed to take the Americans toovertime on Friday before losing 3-2. They also started wellagainst Canada, keeping the score to 1-0 through the first 30minutes. "It was a tight game early," said Phaneuf. "They came out hard. Kazakhstan faced Canada for the first time ever in worldchampionship play and saw its record drop to 0-5-1. The team willbe relegated to the lower level Group A world championship nextyear. "We wanted to try and wear them down and try and wear their beliefdown," said Tavares. "I think over the course of the game we didthat. Eventually, we got the results that we wanted." Dubnyk earned his first career world championship shutout. He hadto stand tall during a late 5-on-3 disadvantage that promptedKazakhstan to call a timeout in the final minute to draw up a play. "I was joking with the ref," said Dubnyk. "I said 'Come on, there's50 seconds left, let's just get out of here."' There were smiles all around when the final buzzer sounded on asatisfying victory. It could have been a trap game against a weakeropponent but Canada played exactly as it intended to. "You want to just keep your good habits and stay as focused as youcan," said Eberle. "Obviously, it can be tough. But you have to beprepared for the games ahead and all of that starts with goodhabits.".
