If you're planning a relaxing summer holiday in Europe with your family or friends, you may want to check out Albufeira, a small town in Portugal. Well-known as one of the top destinations in the country, it is famous for its quaint township and gorgeous beaches that attract tourists with warm, pristine waters and white sands. Your flight will land in Faro and the trip from Faro to Albufeira will take you about an hour. As soon as you set off you will understand just why this destination is becoming so popular. When you arrive on the transfer from Faro to Albufeira one of the first attractions you should make time for is the Zoomarine Theme Park. Here you will have the opportunity to interact with dolphins and spend some memorable moments with these amazing creatures. You can also learn a lot about the biology and ecology of them while you are here. You'll learn some basic signals to communicate with the dolphins and even get them to perform some tricks for you. The bond you share with them will be something you never forget. As this is the only place in Europe where you can interact with dolphins, be sure to book in advance as places fill quickly, especially during summer. Another must-do when you arrive in this lovely town on the Faro to Albufeira transfer is a tour of the vineyards and winery at Quinta do Miradouro. You can sample Sir Cliff Richard’s famous Vida Nova, which is vinified, matured and bottled right here. By appointment, you can actually spend a whole day tasting here and enjoy guided tours of the vineyard. Next, set sail on the pirate ship “Leãozinho” (translated as "the little lion") along the spectacular coastline of the Algarve. You will pass by magnificent rock formations and enchanting white beaches, and you may even discover a different side to yourself on this historic ship. For a taste of culture, visit the lovely church, Igreja Matriz. The original church (which was converted from an Arab mosque) was destroyed completely in an earthquake, and this current church was built in 1782 and consecrated by the Bishop of Algarve in 1800. The 28-metre high bell tower was added in the mid 19th century. This delightful little town has several historical remains that you can still see, despite most of the region being ruined by the aforementioned massive earthquake. It is also a lovely place to spend lazy days by the beach when you don’t feel like doing much at all. The short journey from Faro to Albufeira is an easy and comfortable one. Along the way you will be assailed by the stunning scenery of the Algarve so the time will fly and you'll be on holiday before you know it! Lukas Johannes is a driver for Shuttle Direct.
