A tumor is a mass of tissue that is formed by accumulation of abnormal cells. Normally, the cells die and are replaced by new cells. Tumor cells grow uncontrollably, even when the body does not require them. These cells do no die like the old normal cells. This leads to rapid growth of tumor. The cells around the tumor are damaged by inflammation. This puts pressure on the tissue under and around it as well as inside the skull. Cerebrum tumor is an abnormal growth of cells within the brain which can be cancerous or non-cancerous. A one that originates in the brain is called a primary brain tumor and not all are cancerous. Benign tumors are not aggressive. They do not spread to surrounding tissues but they can be serious and even life threatening. Brain tumors can be categorized into two general groups as primary and secondary brain tumors. • Primary Brain Tumor: Tumors that originate within the brain tissue are called primary brain tumors. These are classified by the type of tissue in which they appear. The most common brain tumors are gliomas which begin in supportive tissue (glial). There are several other types of gliomas such as astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas, and ependymomas. There are also other tumors which do not begin in the glial tissue. Benign a type of primary brain tumor: Benign brain tumors grow faster and are noncancerous. These are not deeply rooted into the brain tissue and have clearly defined borders. This can be easily removed by surgery assuming it to be in an area of the brain. These tumors are less likely to recur and can come back even after it has been removed by surgery. Benign tumor in other parts of the body can cause problems. But a benign brain tumor can cause serious health problems or they can even be life-threatening. • Secondary Brain Tumor: Tumors that originate in other parts of body are called secondary brain tumor. Treatment for this type depends on where the cancer started and the extent of the spread as well as other factors, including patients’ age, health status and response to previous treatment. Malignant a type of secondary brain tumor: Malignant primary brain tumors are originated in the brain. It grows faster than benign tumors. It also invades the surrounding aggressively. Brain cancer rarely spreads to other organs, but this will spread to other parts of the brain and central nervous system. Treatment: There are several different types of tumors that can develop in the cerebrum and no one treatment is best for everybody. Choosing the right treatment depends on several factors like the type and size of tumor. The treatment may also involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy.
