Irish Songwriter

Fashion & Cosmetics
As among the largest record sellers in Ireland, his good results has spanned 4 decades in the music business.
His international breakthrough came from writing the winning song for Sandie Shaw, 'Puppet on a String', inside the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest. This was followed by a runners-up placing for 'Congratulations' sung by Cliff Richard inside the following year's contest.
Coulter is from Derry in Northern Ireland where his father was a policeman; among few Catholic constables within the force. He grew up with his two brothers and two sisters.
Coulter's father, also referred to as Phil, encouraged music in the residence. He played the fiddle whilst his wife played the upright piano. The younger Coulter recalls this piano, produced by Challen, as "the most significant piece of furniture inside the house". "I always stayed away in the fiddle, obtaining inflicted adequate discomfort on my family members with all the piano," he laughed.
Coulter confesses that he came close to abandoning the piano at an early age. "The truth is I hated the piano initially. I'd appreciate to say I was a organic but I wasn't. I hated playing it and I hated my music teacher. My father, who was a canny man, told me, 'We have to scrimp and save to pay for these lessons, you could at the same time give them up.' "It wasn't lengthy before I gravitated back for the piano, attempting to play the songs that I was listening to on the radio. I often wondered what my left hand was supposed to be doing even though. But just after two or 3 years at St. Columb's College I started considering of the piano as an extension of myself."
One of Coulter's most well-known songs, "The Town I Loved So Well", deals using the embattled city of his youth, filled with "that damned barbed wire" throughout the Troubles. 'It will be the one particular I anguished most more than, the a single which had to earn respect and probably one of the most auto-biographical tune I've ever written' "The roots of that song go extremely, quite deep, it took time for it to win respect and integrity. That song defines an era and a location that is certainly very dear to my heart."
'The Town I Loved So Well' is among the most recorded Irish songs. Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew (Dubliners) recored it as well as, Paddy Reilly had a hit with it in 1971 and it went to No. five, and stayed within the charts for fifteen weeks. It was also voted the most effective song from the millennium on a radio poll.
Phil Coulter suggests the cause for the reputation in the song, was how properly it defined the situation inside the North of Ireland for the lots of persons impacted by the Troubles. And as persons became a lot more aware of the predicament, the song was regarded as a sort of anthem. Former US President Bill Clinton expressed his fondness for it and Phil Coulter sang it for him within the Guild Hall in Derry, which gave it a lot more publicity.
Coulter says the song certainly is not nationalist as he maintains the final thing we required was yet another rebel song. The line 'Oh My God what have they done' refers to what the violence and bombs of both sides have performed to the town he loved so nicely.
Flutist James Galway and pianist Phil Coulter seek to present a handful in the most broadly recognizable Celtic melodies in Legends. "Danny Boy" gets an intimate flute and piano therapy, when the famed "Riverdance" gets a full orchestral background and uillean pipes solo. There is the evocative, sweet expanse of "Harry's Game," and the classic "Mna na h-Eireann (Girls of Ireland), with which Sean O'Rioda helped rekindle Irish interest inside the country's musical history.
Galway and Coulter go beyond the Celtic border to spend Henry Mancini tribute with all the lush television miniseries theme, "The Thornbirds," hence crossing into effortless listening and specific radio hit territory. This is not the blazing traditional Celtic music on the post-1960s generation, nor is it the polyethnic mix of today's young Celtic artists. Instead, Legends is often a listener-friendly mix of Celtic moods and lite classical, one thing for all ages to hum as well as.If you like celine please Visit our celine handbags! Happy shopping!
