How to Disable Tracking Devices Global Positioning Systems (GPS) devices are an almost routine installation on new vehicles today. They are tremendously helpful to people who need to find their way as they navigate unfamiliar territory. GPS devices can help locate a car that's lost, stolen or being misused. It can also be used to track people who don't wish to have their location known and for that reason some individuals choose to disable their car tracking device. Disabling a tracking device on a car can be effected relatively simply Instructions 1 Buy the Global Positioning Systems Tracker Defense (also called a "jammer") device. Global Positioning Systems operate by blocking the radio waves emitted by the GPS system and "read" by the satellites, which orbit above the earth, picking up these signals. 2 Plug the GPS Tracker Defense into the car's 12-volt lighter plug. The 12-volt cigarette lighter is standard on all cars and will accommodate the jammer. The GPS signals between the receiver and the satellite, interrupting the signal. 3 Cover the GPS antenna (if there is one) in aluminum foil. GPS systems are dependent on access to the sky which will allow their signals to be picked up by the satellites that track these signals.
