Delhi the capital of India is historically significant and has a rich culture and heritage. The city bears testimony to the Mughal dynasty which ruled India once upon a time. The city is dotted all across with historical places which are all masterpieces of Indian art and architecture. Delhi is also the political hub of the country since Rashtrapati Bhawan and Indian Parliament are situated here.

Places of Interest

1. Red Fort - The most famous historical monument of Delhi Red Fort stretches over 2kms and was constructed in 1638 to prevent the invasion of the enemies. The one hour light and sound show held each evening will give you an insight into the history of the fort. It is the most popular tourist attraction included in Delhi honeymoon packages.

2. Jama Masjid – The largest mosque in India Jama Masjid is located in the Old City and one of the most popular tourist attractions included in Delhi honeymoon packages. It took 13 years to build the mosque and the construction was completed in 1650. The courtyard of the mosque can hold up to 25,000 devotees. You can climb up the top of the southern tower to catch amazing glimpses of the all the rooftops of Delhi.

3. Chandni Chowk - The oldest and busiest market of India Chandni Chowk is known for its narrow winding lanes dotted with shops selling inexpensive jewelery, electronic goods, fabrics, etc. It is crowded and congested with cars, cycle rickshaws, hand-pulled carts, pedestrians and animals. You will also get here some amazing street food of Delhi. It is a popular tourist attraction included in Delhi honeymoon packages.

4. Humayun’s Tomb - It was built in 1570 and preserves the body of Humayun the second Mughal emperor. The Mughal architecture used in this Tomb is first of its kind. The tomb is situated inside a complex surrounded by serene gardens. It is a popular tourist attraction included in Delhi honeymoon packages.

5. Lodi Gardens - Established by the British in 1936 Lodi garden is a great place for relaxation and is a wonderful retreat from the chaotic city life.

6. Qutub Minar - Built in 1206 Qutub Minar is the tallest brick minaret in the world and an exquisite masterpiece of Indo-Islamic architecture. There are five unique stories attached to the Minar. The tower has intricate carvings all over and verses from the Holy Quran. There is also a couple of other historic monument around the Minar.

7. Gandhi Smriti - It is the death spot of Mahatma Gandhi - “The Father of the Nation”. He lived in this house for 144days till he was assassinated on January 30, 1948. The room where he stayed is kept as it was till he left. The prayer ground where he held a mass congregation every evening is also open for public viewing. You will get to see here lots of photos, sculptures, paintings, and inscriptions.
