Illegal aliens in South Tel Aviv Yoni Kempinski Residents of south Tel Aviv, up in arms over ongoing attacks on them by illegal aliens who have settled in their neighborhood, are demanding action and protection from police. If they do not get it, said Sefi Ben Menachem, a neighborhood activist, they are likely to take matters into their own hands. Anger was renewed among Jewish residents of the neighborhood after an Eritrean illegal resident entered an apartment in south Tel Aviv overnight Tuesday and attacked an eight-year-old girl. The girl’s mother heard her child cry and ran to help, but was stabbed and injured by the attacker. The mother’s screams woke the father, who managed to overpower the attacker. The two fought until the attacker lost consciousness. He was taken to hospital in serious condition. The girl was taken to a local hospital as well for both physical and immediate psychiatric care. “People are losing patience,” Ben Menachem told Arutz Sheva. “This latest incident is just one in a series of failures by the authorities to protect neighborhood residents. There are violent incidents here on a regular basis. This violence is like gunpowder, in that it is likely to set off an explosion among residents.” Ben Menachem called on the new government to do something about the problem as soon as possible. “Unfortunately the construction of the security fence in the south has not helped us, since it does nothing to remove the illegals already here,” he said. But with the fence's completion, the issue of illegal aliens has moved out of the public eye. “No one cares about what is happening here,” he said. “We are tired of going out and protesting, while things only get worse. Each week it seems as if we pass another red line. We will not accept that we in south Tel Aviv will be treated in an inferior manner to north Tel Aviv. If the national issue today is for each group to pull its weight, we demand to be given the same weight as the 'good' neighborhoods of north Tel Aviv ben menachem added.
