Water & Fengshui

Equated to wealth – water can be as productive a force in life as it can be destructive…

Water is generally considered as wealth in Feng Shui. When you place a body of water in a particular area, energy begins to accumulate there and starts activating the positive forces of nature.

Water may be placed in any form – a fish tank, a fountain or even a simple bowl of water with petals or coins in it. You have to just make sure that the bowl is 10” – 12” in diameter and 3” – 4” deep.

It is absolutely imperative that the water is actually present and even more essential that it persists in a gentle flow rather than a forceful gushing stream or fountain. Why? Well, the gentler the flow of water, the stronger its positive energy, the more intensive its degree of activation.

The material that you choose to display the water is equally relevant to the function it embodies. Marble, earthenware, wood, all represent the earth and are the best materials to use in a fountain, or bowl. Also, if you are considering placing an aquarium since it also enhances the ambience of the room in question, make sure that you have in it 6 gold fish and 1 black one – this symbolizes the number seven – considered as the early heavenly sequence of all things auspicious that generates a charged energy in water – making it doubly auspicious. Other options include a floating candle or even a shallow growing plant that requires less depth and can float in a container of water. Remember the traditional Urli?!

Besides actually placing a water body, there are other methods of ushering in the positive energies into your home. Use the colors of water – blue and black. On a foot mat at your entrance, a wall hanging perhaps, blue cushion covers, a sheer blue curtain, a rug, etc.

Yet another option is the use of fluid shapes – circles, semi-circles, and flowing shapes represent water when they are placed in numbers rather than singly. For e.g., a corner table with a round pedestal and a curvaceous tabletop!

And last but certainly not the least important is the fact that water should meander in the home – from the entrance into the living, from the living into the dining and kitchen – flowing through these areas rather than moving in straight pathways. This again builds the energy flow and does wonders for the family! Watch Out: • Do not allow water to stagnate or smell. Keep it fresh by changing it often. • Never have leaky faucets in the home • Do not allow the petals to wilt in a bowl of water • Always make sure that the fish remain in fresh water in an aquarium • Never hang a picture/ painting depicting flowing water above 5ft. height in a room • Do not allow the water to spill over • Do not overdo any one color or shape – you will start experiencing difficulty coping with things. • Let the water flow gently – never gushingly; it will lead to extra expenses.
