General Patrick O’Reilly attended the U.S Military Academy at West Point, New York to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Basic Science and start an exciting and satisfying career that spanned four decades. West Point is a four-year coeducational service academy which Forbes magazine has named the best secondary education in the country. Candidates must apply directly to the academy and receive a nomination from a Senator, Congressional Representative or other source. Once enrolled, students are considered officers-in-training and are addressed as cadets and are members of the United States Corps of Cadets. Cadets of West Point receive full tuition funded by the Army in exchange for an active duty service obligation that starts upon graduation. Attending West Point, students will receive a Bachelor of Science degree with a curriculum that evaluates cadets based on performance on a broad academic program, military leadership skills, and participation in competitive athletics. West Point evaluates a cadet’s leadership ability based off of experience as a development of all three pillars of performance: academics, physical, and military. Graduates of the Academy are commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army. The alumni of West Point have gone on to achieve great accomplishments in the military, government, business and every facet of our society since 1802. Alumni include two Presidents, many well-known generals and 74 Medal of Honor recipients. LTG Patrick O’Reilly graduated from West Point in 1978 and went on to hold many important leadership positions throughout his career. In 2008, General Patrick O’Reilly was nominated by the United States President, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to become the Director of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.
