We must consider the fact that the prevalent poverty in our society heavily affects our children and our self in great many ways. Poverty affects the education as a child begins its accomplishments to learn, to grow and to be. Education can be the answer to poverty and we can easily eradicate poverty by taking precise measures against it. But for taking these measures against poverty we need to educate young minds. Poverty demotivates the students as well as their parents, because they are aware of the fact that they are unable to provide for their children. There is no amazement in the fact that because of poverty children are unprepared to learn. The children who are raised by parents with low income face many risks such as academic and social problems as well as poor health and well being. In turn, these problems may result in discouragement of educational achievement. Because of poverty, at a very early age, when the children should be in schools instead of which, they are concerned about earning and to provide for their families. Poverty presents a constant stress for children and parents who may be trying to interfere with developmental adjustment tasks including education. We cannot imagine attending school with empty stomach. How much learning can we do in this situation? I presume, very little. The main focus of poverty stricken people is to ease the pangs of hunger and fill their stomachs. The people of under developed countries face this dilemma more often than the residents of developed countries. At a very age these children are aware of their socioeconomic position, which further discourages them to express themselves. Poor families, in some situations, instead of empowering the children fill them with a lot of insecurities which then leads to low self esteem and confidence. This is also another way of poverty to affect child and its education. The effects of poverty in children are also heavily influenced by their families. Normally low income families have limited education which reduces the ability to provide children with more stimulating environment. They have less or poor linguistic abilities and because these children are not raised or supervised at home it burdened the teachers as they have to act as their parents as well. There is a great need to eliminate this situation so that our country could prosper in a constructive direction. The article is sponsored by Dawood Public School, Karachi, Pakistan.
