By Team IAnD Zaha Hadid does it again. Once again an out-of-box concept is actualized by Zaha, this time bringing you the pleasure of the wildest outdoors- indoors! The “world’s largest stand-alone structure”, measuring 500 metres in length and 400 metres in width, with 1.7 million square metres of floor space - big enough to hold 20 Sydney Opera Houses - is the latest symbol of China's economic boom. Designed by none other than the dynamic Zaha Hadid, whose "multiple perspective points and fragmented geometry” evoke the chaos of modern life, the "New Century Global Centre" in Chengdu, southwest of China's Sichuan province opened its doors to awe, splendor and magnificence on June 28, 2013. Just a fortnight of its existence and the awesomeness of having so much under a single roof – or should we say, a micro-city in itself, is overwhelming visitors. The staggering floor space of nearly 19 million square feet with two underground levels and 18 storeys above ground, plays host to a network of office spaces, retail establishments, hospitality outlets, a central plaza, two 1,000-room five-star hotels, an ice-skating rink, a 14-screen IMAX theater, and an artificial beach right in the middle of the building. The 5000 sq. mt. ocean park with a 400-meter-long indoor "beach," and 7,000 sq m seaside wooden docking station, replete with the world's biggest LED screen in the background is a treat for anybody and is being heralded as the USP of the Centre. The interior of the entire complex is designed with a Mediterranean, seaside theme and has a line-up of 44 fountains that lead one to a grand 150-meter-diameter musical water fountain spraying water up to 60 meters high. Incidentally, another highlight is a Japanese technical marvel – an artificial sun that will shine 24 hours a day and allow for a comfortable temperature. According to the promotional video distributed by GoChengdoo.com, the New Century Global Center is "themed with a comprehensive and profound oceanic culture and inspired by the design concept of sailing seagulls and undulating waves." to view images clicke on globalhop.indiaartndesign.com
