YOU receive a letter from Professor McGonagall informing you thatyou have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft andWizardry. Eager as you are, you pack your bags and hop onto Hogwards Expressthat takes you to Hogwarts. To your delight, you arrive at Hogsmeade Station - but this time,you're in Singapore, not London. This is where your journey into the world of Hogwarts Schoolbegins. Here for the first time in Singapore is Harry Potter: Theexhibition, which opens to the public at the ArtScience Museum atMarina Bay Sands on June 2.
The exhibition from the popular children's book series by J.KRowling is making this its first stop in South-east Asia andSingapore fans are in for a visual treat. Over 200 carefully selected artefacts from the film sets in the USwill be on display, showcasing Harry Potter's original wand,glasses and bed, sporting props from Quidditch and elaboratecostumes from Hogwarts Yule Ball. But what makes this exhibition different from previous tours isthat it is the first to feature Nagini from the final film and allsix of Voldermort's Horcruxs in one location. So be sure to lookout for those items at the end of The Forbidden Forest.
Speaking to the press, Executive Director of the ArtScience MuseumNick Dixon told us that Harry Potter: The exibition is "a beautifulstory to display the art of storytelling and the science of moviemaking. It celebrates creativity." Indeed, visitors will get a tast of the creativity of thefilmmakers, set and costume designers through the exhibition, whichwill take you through ten key sets. A typical day at Hogwarts begins when you arrive at HogsmeadeStation. Then you will get to enter the corridors of GryffindorDormitorym, learn some spells at Hogwarts Classes, play Quidditch,spend time at Hagrid's Hut, and then get ready for the fight ofyour life against the Dark Forces at The Forbidden Forrest.
Andsince we all know how it ends, you (the good guy) will get tocelebrate your victory with the rest of your teammates at the GreatHall. The exhibition is fundmentally different from the movie theatreexperience as visitors will get to take time to admire the propsand costumes, and understand the art that goes behind the making ofthe action and soak in the magic of the atmosphere. One highlightis The Forbidden Forest, where as spooky as it seems - which is thepoint of it all - you will even get to hear the willowy whispers ofVoldermort calling out to you, if you listen carefully enough. However, the exhibition is best appreciated with the audio guideduring which various department heads who were part of making theHarry Potter movie will give their commentaries.
But of course, itcomes at an additional cost of S$6. Otherwise, most signs are self-explanatory and there are museumstaff stationed throughout the 16,000 sq ft exhibition space toanswer any questions you may have about the exhibition.
