Giving birth to a child is, beyond doubt, one of the most fulfilling events in the life of any lady. However, the physical and mental stresses related to childbirth are considerable, and proper postnatal care is required, to avoid complications and future infertility. We would here list out nine vital postnatal healthcare tips that you need to adhere to, for ruling out the need for IVF treatment and/or further corrective surgeries: a. Follow the prescribed diet – Get in touch with a professional dietician, and get a proper diet chart prepared by him/her. Make sure that green vegetables, fishes, and chicken feature prominently in your meals. Whenever you feel peckish between meals, munch on some fresh fruits. Stay away from carbonated energy drinks. b. Take a lot of rest – Till at least up to 6 weeks after childbirth, do not try to perform any strenuous physical activity. Stay in bed, catch up on your sleep, and play with your li’l infant. Give your body time to regain full fitness, before resuming your daily chores. c. Be wary of infections – This is particularly important in case you have a caesarian operation. Contact a qualified medical practitioner at any good pregnancy and IVF center in Kolkata, if you experience sudden pains and discomforts. Talk to your gynecologist, in case there is heavy bleeding/irregularity in your periods after childbirth. Do not take any medication on your own. d. Start some light exercises – There is a chance of ladies gaining quite a bit of weight, after giving birth to babies. Keep such chances (and related obesity problems) at bay, by starting some light freehand exercises, about 8 weeks after your delivery date. Avoid complex, and too strenuous exercise postures. Walk in the garden/nearby street at a leisurely pace every day too. e. Breastfeed your kid – Postnatal care is about the healthy development of your newborn baby too, and breastfeeding is extremely important in this regard. In case there are unnatural discharges from the nipple area, get in touch with your gynecologist immediately. That can be a sign of future infertility, and IVF treatment might be necessary. f. Have hot-water bags near your bed – Post-pregnancy, there can be a tendency of your lower body (particularly the abdominal area) to cramp up at times. Apply hot-water bags on the affected area, to ease such painful cramps. Of course, if the cramps persist, contacting a trained doctor is advisable. g. Intake of fluids is important – You are recovering from a major surgical process, and are breastfeeding your kid too – and this enhances the need for maintaining the balance of fluids in your body. Have fresh fruit juices on a regular basis, along with your breakfast and evening snacks. Keep sipping on water (preferably mineral water), whenever you feel thirsty. h. Apply collagen-rich oils to get rid of the stretch marks – You are probably pining for that slim, toned pre-childbirth belly of yours – but that’s not going to make an overnight comeback. Gently apply mild skin moisturizing oils (with high collagen content) on your stomach, on a daily basis. If there are any inflammations/discharges from the navel, seek professional advice from a renowned IVF center in Kolkata. If there are no other problems, scar marks would disappear within a few weeks. i. Do away with mental stresses – It is only natural to feel depressed and too stressed out, during the first few weeks after childbirth. You might even dislike your physical appearance (after all, it takes a bit of time to get back to your slim, svelte self!). Stay away from such unhealthy mental conditions, by reading nice and informative maternity books, listening to good music, chatting with friends and family-members, and pursuing any other activity that you find to be relaxing. You have just performed the wonder of bringing a new life to the world – feel happy about that! You can minimize the chances of hip-related problems, by wearing a medical belt during the postnatal recovery period. Do not simply assume that you require IVF treatment or any other such complicated treatment procedure, in case you face any minor pains/health issues during this phase. Go for regular checkups at your gynecologist’s clinic. Follow the tips mentioned above, and get back in shape (literally and metaphorically) after childbirth, in a completely healthy manner.
