As a 4X4 owner, you are bound to take your vehicle for a run in the way and beyond every once in a while. As your vehicle stirs up dust and debris, your air filter is compelled to contain these contaminants as the engine starts gasping for clean air. Now imagine your vehicle crossing a river. As the front tires move off the embankment the vehicle will nose into the water, and the air intake automatically becomes more vulnerable to ingesting it. Any 4WD owner who has spent some time in an off-road environment must surely have experienced a situation such as this. Very few actually consider a solution to this problem, in advance. It is only after expensive damage occurs that the people consider adding a snorkel to the vehicle. An Isuzu snorkel system relocates the air-intake point of the engine from a considerable vulnerable and low position right under the hood, to one that is located at a much safer and higher location. Outfitting the vehicle with a snorkel helps in pulling in clean, cool and dry air into the engine compartment. The Isuzu snorkel is manufactured from high-quality polyethylene. It is UV stable and extremely resilient. It is best to install one as soon as you buy your vehicle and protect the engine and all other components from damage. Every part of this snorkel is designed for maximum water and dust sealing. The hardware has stainless steel plating and is highly corrosion-resistant. Some models also have precleaners attached to them and you can pick the one you want. These precleaners ensure that the air gets doubly filtered before it moves to the engine compartment. There is no doubt that diesel engines are tough and hardy, but they are not indestructible. Basic maintenance is important and so are a few other things. Fixing a snorkel takes care of part of the issue but there is one more factor that can be a killer- exhaust gas temperature, or EGT. Despite this, no motor homes or diesel pickups are equipped with a 12v pyrometer. They are more of an optional piece of equipment and you can have one fitted at any time. Under normal operation, the EGT of these vehicles stays within safe limits. However, there are times when the EGT shoots up and can cause serious damage to the engine. The unfortunate part is that there are no warning signals. The driver will never know when something is going wrong. Having a 12v pyrometer fitted can change all that. This piece displays the EGT of diesel and warns the driver of potentially dangerous conditions before the damage spreads. Many diesel truck owners get these fitted and so do 4Wd owners. This is more helpful if you have an aftermarket tuner or chip installed. It measures the exhaust temperature and provides an accurate reading. It can be used on a diesel track and will give you a clear idea about fuel wastage, if any and it tracks burned valves as well.
