The southern coast of Turkey sits on the Mediterranean Sea and offers visitors an array of stunning coastlines and vistas. When you travel here for a family holiday, allow the city of Alanya transfer you to a place of gorgeous beaches with wide swaths of white sands and some of the bluest and clearest waters you will ever see. History tells us even the Egyptian queen, Cleopatra, stopped for a swim in the clear and protected waters. In addition to having some excellent beaches which edge up to the famous Taurus Mountains, the Alanya transfer from the nearby Anatalya Airport makes it a very accessible destination. There is plenty to do fro every member of the family, including a number of excellent museums. The city itself is steeped in history and these museums are dedicated to the preservation of the region's fascinating past. While you are in the city be sure to visit the Ethnographic Museum and the Archaeological Museum. The Ethnographic Museum As you take the Alanya transfer into the city, you may notice the icon of the Red Tower on the city flags and in randomly depicted in other locations. The real Red Tower is where the Ethnographic Museum is located – so it is certainly not hard to find. Down by the old dockyards of the city, the Red Tower was built in 1226 as their primary line of defence. It is the last of the castle's eighty-three towers and has been home to the Ethnographic Museum since 1979. Even though the tower looks simple from the outside, each of its five floors has a complex layout. The first floor features a cistern and each floor has special openings built for protective purposes. The first two floors have vaulted chambers and anterooms while the second through fourth levels are open terraces with rooms along each side. A visit the fourth floor will reveal the defensive crenulations formed from alternating apertures and shields, and give you an idea of how the tower was protected. You can learn more about the city's military history and the town itself in addition to learning about the area's heraldry and the use of the double-headed eagle. Archaeological Museum Opened to visitors in 1967, the Archaeological Museum is made up of two major displays that showcase the history of the city itself and the wider region. Before you let the sun and sea of Alanya transfer you to a world of relaxation on one of the beaches, stop by here to see the ancient inscriptions, pottery, marble and even coins dating back to the fifth and sixth century B.C. In a separate room the crowning glory of the museum is proudly displayed: the bronze statue of Hercules, which dates to the second century C.E. There is also an open garden area you can wander around, which is home to several Roman-Era ossuaries. Lukas Johannes is a driver for Shuttle Direct.
