Business Cards are cards that we use to give out our formal introduction. These cards contain our name, our employer name and possibly logo as well as contact information at workplace or our home. We generally do not give much regard to these business cards yet we accept and exchange business cards at every formal occasion. These cards present us in unknown situations and therefore must reflect a part of us in them. Business cards can be simple ones with black ink on white paper or they can be prepared using extensive coloring and fabulous creative and artistic designing. These cards are usually prepared and printed on paper stock. This stock can also be called card stock as it is thicker than normal paper that we use to write on. These days, much thicker paper is also used for a business card which was not possible previously due to difficulties in printing on thick materials. Business cards can easily be torn or their colors worn out if they are of low quality. High quality business cards are usually thicker and their ink is much more prominent and diffused in the paper stock. All methods though that make a card cheap do not decrease its quality. Batch printing is a technique that reduces the overall cost of printing business cards but it does not affect the quality of business cards. These days, business cards can be prepared using different materials such as silk, wood, metal as well as different kinds of plastic such as PVC. There are also two methods of business card printing. They too are very responsible in determining the overall cost of the business cards. The two available printing methods are offset and digital printing. Let us first examine digital printing. Digital printing has made business card printing much easier. Digital printers can directly get a finished card design from a computer and print them. They can also produce copies at quite a constant rate of operation. Also, it is easy to change the design at any time of working by simply altering the card design on a computer using simple altering software such as from Adobe or in fact in MS Paint. Digital printing has reduced the cost of printing but still it is not good enough for printing very detailed colors on a business card as smaller lines and designs can appear as tiny dots which are discontinuous. On the other hand, offset printing requires a lot of preparation before the start of printing. A rubber die is prepared and colors must be formulated before hand when using offset printing. It is also difficult to stop the printing in middle and correct any problem in this kind of printing technique. Spot colors are used which are fused well in the paper as a rubber die presses them against the card stock on which business cards are prepared. This method has a much higher initial cost. The higher cost means that usually it is feasible for a much greater number of prints than what are normally needed for simple people of middle class. The finishing of spot colors is flawless and you can always use as many spot colors as to your liking.
