Facebook Home Facebook Home is a mobile native interface specifically for the Android market. It has been developed by Facebook to run on smartphones running the Android platform and replaces the social networking site’s usual opening screen. Users who download the app to their Android smartphones will be able to see a home screen that will engage with their close friends, regularly used apps and a much easier ability to launch other apps within the site. The new Facebook Home overlay has a chat function which is not present on other mobile devices browsing through Facebook. You can also send text messages via any other application through the front page also. The new Facebook Home screen is ultimately very different from the usual screen one would have been used to on Facebook. Users can use a background image and update statuses which will then overlay the background picture. When you are not engaged with the app the screen will simply show you any updates on Facebook that have been placed there by your friends. To open any of the application whilst in Facebook Home you simply tap and hold the icon and drag it into the application avatar. In some ways it feels like Facebook is taking over your home screen on your smartphone. Facebook Home is a virtual operating system that becomes deeply integrated into your phone’s everyday functions. Facebook Home was made available in April 2013 but so far it can only be used on specific Android devices namely; the Samsung Galaxy S3, S4 and the Galaxy Note II. It can also be used on the HTC One. Facebook Home is a promising feature for those obsessed with the social networking site and promises to be a focal point on your smartphone. It puts Facebook at the front and in the centre of your phone and you’ll find tweaking its specifications and settings to suit your style is both simple and easy to do. If there were to be any criticism of Facebook Home then having to relearn how to use your phone from switch off point all over again has to be the obvious issue. Facebook Home will dominate your home screen and it has so many new features where one can interact with apps like Instagram, Chat and any games you have signed up for that it can be a little bit of a minefield at first.
