International sustainable resins supplier, Cardia BioplasticsLimited and emerging organic skincare company, ECOCARE , havepartnered to produce a world first in the skin care industry eco-friendly facial wipes enclosed in eco-friendly packaging. The biodegradable facial wipes are made from 100% natural certifiedorganic cotton. The packaging incorporates Cardia s renewable andrecyclable Biohybrid resin which is derived from renewableresources. The resulting green combination has a significantlylower carbon footprint than its competitors. There is a growing trend for companies to look at ways to reducethe impact of their operations on the environment, said Dr FrankGlatz, Managing Director of Cardia Bioplastics.
Product packaging is a good place to start. Our thermoplastic starch resins have a high renewable content when they are incorporated into standard packaging or plasticproducts, the carbon footprint is reduced by up to 50 per cent, said Dr Glatz. ECOCARE has built its business on environment-friendlyproducts and we are proud to partner with them to develop packagingsolutions that align with this philosophy. We hope that others in the consumer healthcare and beautyindustry will follow the company s lead and seek out sustainablepackaging solutions, said Dr Glatz. Cardia s Biohybrid resins combine renewable thermoplasticswith oil-based polymer material to reduce dependence on finite oilresources and to reduce carbon footprint.
The renewable material isderived from non-genetically modified corn crop grown forindustrial use. Furthermore, they are compatible with currentplastic recycling processes, are food safe compliant and haveofficial Halal Certification. Callan Taylor, Marketing Director of ECOCARE , said: Environmental sustainability is engrained in the ECOCARE business model, and our range of skin care wipes have been builtaround this philosophy. We are looking forward to working with Cardia to accessenvironmentally-friendly and renewable packaging that complementsour products and our principles, Mr Taylor said.
