Ping has really dialed in their sound and feel. The Ping G25 driver moves closer to the i20 in terms of sound and feel. It is a low pitched metallic sound at impact that sends the ball screaming out into the fairway. With most manufacturers seemingly obsessed with colour - be it white, bright orange, blue or whatever else might take your fancy - PING have gone back to basics and given the G25 driver a matt black finish. It looks exactly what it is -a formidable beast that will send the ball way out there. The super smooth Graphite Design feel has that coveted low spin with high launch which turns the G25 into a canon. I've also found the DI shaft to be very accurate so I ended up with the best fit for the G25. I found the G25 was just a little longer than the distances I was hitting the cheap Ping G20 driver. I attribute the distance gain to the launch and lower spin. I can't say I hit it way further than any thing else out there, but it sure is easy to hit a long ways. It comes with three ball-flight options - low, normal and high. That means that if you turn up for a game and the wind is blowing at 40mph, you can adjust the club to give the ball a low, boring trajectory. And if you are lucky enough to be playing a course with sun-baked fairways, then you will want to use the high ball-flight option. The G25 comes with a very good TFC189 shaft that is the same wieght as the previous TFC169 at 58 grams in the stiff flex we tried. It's stability seemed good although for some reason it did feel a little heavier when swinging the cheap golf clubs even though everything else is the same. The driver sits well at address and even though it seems to want to fall open when you ground it, it does stay square. It is slightly longer front to back and now looks a a fraction triangular. It is also taller at the face and the sole weight at the back is less pronounced and not as tall. The Ping G25 driver is the next evolution of Ping G range of drivers, but as with all products that are the number 1 sellers in the market.
