Phi Phi is considered as one of the most beautiful, yet easily accessible island groups in the world. It is a must see place for people visiting Thailand. The Phi Phi island is located 40 Km Southeast of Phuket and contain six islands. It is very famous for its white powdery beaches, limestone cliffs rising sheer out of emerald green waters, and coral reefs offering great diving and snorkeling. A trip from Phuket to Phi Phi Island can be an unforgettable experience for many people. Different Ways of Travelling from Phuket to Phi Phi: Travelling from Phuket to Phi Phi can be done through ferry, sea boat and seaplane services. a. Travel from Phuket to Phi Phi Island through ferries: One option to reach Phi Phi is to go by the ferry Rassada Pier, which is located close to the Phuket town. From Phuket, there are two ferries a day year round, one leaving around 8.30 am and the other around 1.30 pm. During peak seasons, there are more ferries plying to Phi Phi from Phuket. Tickets can be obtained from guesthouses and travel agents or at the pier itself. Ferry travel is the inexpensive way to reach Phi Phi from Phuket and costs around 550 Baht for going to Phi Phi and 900 Baht for the return journey also. The journey takes around 2 hours. After reaching Phi Phi, there is a 20 Baht fee per person at the pier to keep the Phi Phi clean. Also, during peak seasons, there are some added services for the ferry. b. Speedboat: Speedboat is the second option to reach Phi Phi from Phuket. Hiring a private speedboat is very flexible, so that one can reach the island directly and quickly in around 45 minutes. For most of the month in the year, speedboat ride is very smooth. But, it is advisable not to hire a speedboat during the months of September and October, as things will get bumpy during this time. However, speedboats are not good for people having bad backs, pregnant women, and elderly people. Though, speedboats are a costly affair when compared to take a ferry ride, it is a good value for money for larger groups if they can split the costs. c. Seaplane: Sea plane is the third option to reach Phi Phi from Phuket, if elderly people are in the group that cannot go by ferry or boat. Travelling by seaplanes also avoid sea sickness. But the limitation is that, seaplanes can accommodate only 9 people at a time. Seaplane transport to Phi Phi is a very expensive affair which costs around 4999 Baht per person. It is a very short journey of only 25 minutes, and it saves plenty of time compared to travelling by ferry or boat. Seaplane option provides great experiences to the user at a higher price. Getting Around Phi Phi: Phi Phi does not contain any motorized vehicle to travel around, so one has to either walk around or take a long tail boat to get to the other beaches on Phi Phi from the arrival point to Tonsai beach. Since, walking is an arduous task especially with kids and luggage, long tail boats are the best option.
