The attack happened shortly before 5 p.m. in the park's SharonMeadow hours after most of the 50,000 runners and walkers hadcovered the 12-kilometer course and far away from the finish lineand the official post-race celebration area. The race started nextto San Francisco Bay and ended near Ocean Beach. Police said Martin's head hit the ground, knocking him out. Henever regained consciousness at San Francisco General Hospital. Hisfamily said in a statement that he suffered a cerebral hemorrhageand deeper brain damage two weeks later. Doctors advised the familythat he was brain-dead, and the family elected to take him off lifesupport Friday morning. Three weeks later, San Francisco police are still looking for theattacker as Martin's friends plead for more witnesses to comeforward. They are turning to social media for help. Martin's friends have created the Facebook page, "Were you at Bayto Breakers? We need your help!!!" to encourage people who may haveseen Martin attacked. The website has two photographs of Martin's group with members of the othergroup that may, or may not, have included his attacker. Martin andhis friends had run dressed as troll dolls with sunglasses. He'spictured in a bright green wig. On his personal Facebook page, Martin indicated he studied at UCSanta Barbara and is from Tehachapi. "Stephen was a powerhouse of a guy," Erik Sundquist, a colleague ofMartin's, wrote on a Facebook page. "He was the kind of guy when wewalked into a room, he lit it up with his presence." Martin owned a business based out of San Jose, SMA California, onCamden Avenue, which provides consulting work for homeownersassociations. "In a short period of time, he created a product and service thatsuperseded everything else out there," Sundquist wrote.
