Anadrol, also known as Oxymetholone, is a type of anabolic steroid that is generally used to treat different types of anemia. Oxymetholone is a synthetic hormone that is very similar to that of testosterone. The oral forms of Oxymetholone are the only type of anabolic steroid that has received approval from the FDA to treat anemia. The majority of anabolic steroids come in liquid forms and need to be injected. Oxymetholone, although, comes in the form of a tablet.

Who Shouldn't Take Oxymetholone

"Oxymetholone"/"Anadrol" should not be taken by those individuals who are fighting severe kidney disease, liver disease or breast cancer. Those individuals who have coronary artery disease, heart disease or high cholesterol might need to go through regular testing to ensure that the use of Oxymetholone is safe. Throughout the period of treatments, the dosages may need to be altered slightly. Even though Oxymetholone is an anabolic steroid, it should never be used when attempting to enhance the performance of athletes.

Taking Oxymetholone

It might be a necessity to take Oxymetholone/Anadrol for a minimum of six months before you notice any changes in your production of red blood cells. Routine blood tests will determine if the Oxymetholone is working for you. You should only take the dosage of Oxymetholone that is prescribed by your doctor. After the results from your blood tests have been reviewed, you doctor might change your dosage amount based on the amount of red blood cells that your body is producing. If the red blood cells of the patient rise substantially, the use of Oxymetholone might be eliminated. In a few cases, a small dosage might be required to keep the levels of blood at a normal range.

Pregnancy

The women that are pregnant or they are trying to become pregnant should not be taking Oxymetholone. If you happen to become pregnant, talk with your doctor as soon as possible to see if alternative treatment is a possibility. Oxymetholone might cause a delay in bone growth as well as birth defects in children. There is a possibility that Oxymetholone may be passed through to a baby through breast milk.

Drug Interactions

Doctors will need to be aware of all the medications that you are taking before they begin you on a treatment with Oxymetholone/Anadrol. Blood thinners such as Coumadin might lose their effectiveness when they are being taken with Oxymetholone. People who use insulin or other medications for diabetes by mouth should also know that there could be contraindications and interactions.

Side Effects

Oxymetholone/Anadrol might cause a rapid gain of swelling and weight in some areas of the body. Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and loss of appetite are also some known side effects. Women who are taking Oxymetholone might begin to develop some characteristics of males. Male pattern baldness, changes in monthly periods, hair growth on the face, chest or chin, and a voice that deepens are all side effects of Oxymetholone. If you have any signs of an allergic reaction while taking Oxymetholone, you must be treated immediately.
