In the 90s ARPANet was transformed from a military network to the civilian Internet that has become an essential part of modern society, bringing with it technological, economic social, and cultural changes. Little is known about how the Internet contributes to productivity, employment, and global growth. Access to information combined with global demand and supply is reshaping established models and stereotypes. Top industry countries are outsourcing their services to companies from Ukraine, Brazil, China, all from the comfort of their own homes. According to Statistic Brain 35 % of U.S. entrepreneurs said their firm was currently outsourcing . Success is no longer solely determined by the age, right education, location and background. Teenagers are now coding websites, building networks through social media, acquiring skills and experience that a formal education can’t provide. Even being only 17 years old you can become a millionaire, as in the case of Nick D’Aloisio, a young computer developer from London, who sold his app Summly to Yahoo! for nearly $ 30 million. A key feature of the Summly technology is to reduce news stories to three key paragraphs that just fit on the unit’s display iPhone. Having sold his app Nick not only became the youngest high-tech millionaire, but also went to a permanent job at Yahoo! company, continuing his studies to obtain a certificate of secondary education. But Internet influences the society even on a larger scale. We can`t ignore the fact, that Internet is causing positive revolutionary changes. Being one of the driving forces of massive riots as Arab Spring protests, British student protests, OWS and revolution events in Tunisia, social networks became platforms through which users communicated with each other to get their message across. If we take a closer look at the events in Tunisia, the actions of Mohamed Bouazizi, who sacrificed himself in protest by burning himself alive, triggered the domino effect that led to the flight of the Tunisian dictator. For sure the Internet did not start this revolution process, but in the era before technology, these events would have remained ignored by the global society. Yet they set fire to Tunisia thanks to the web, which became “liberated territory” for the youth, who managed to spread liberal ideas via social networks. Gordon Brown, the former British Prime Minister said “in the age of the internet it will be impossible to have a new Rwanda”. But can we actually change the world without leaving our homes only with the help of the Internet? We can! An amazing story of Rachel Beckwith who wanted to raise $300 by her ninth birthday to help bring clean water to people in poor countries is the best example. The girl created her own webpage that was set up to take contributions for charity and decided to celebrate her birthday with the fundraiser instead of getting gifts. Unfortunately 5 weeks later the girl tragically died in a car crash. After Rachel passed away in 2011, thousands of people all over the world impressed by her story began to donate to her 9th birthday wish campaign. Rachel didn’t live to see her birthday wish, but more than 60,000 African people and 200 communities in need of clean water will, now that her campaign has hit $1,265,823 and counting. So does the Internet drive modern revolutions? Used wisely can it really become a tool that will change the world without taking power? software company .
