Watering Your Lawn In order for turf to become established the roots and rhizomes need to bind to the earth and each other. This process is enabled by hydration. Some say submerge it. And as a general rule, there is no limit. However, over the years we’ve found that a little and often approach works best. Indeed, natural rain-fall, evenly distributing water across your new lawn is ideal. However, purchasing a sprinkler is a slightly more reliable method for our purposes. Once the turf is laid, soak through immediately. This is best done in the morning or early evening to avoid the water being evaporated by the sun. Raise the turf and check underneath to ensure the topsoil is moist too. Begin twice a day for the first week and once a week after 3 weeks. When Can We Set Foot On Our Lawn? We advise our customers to wait at least 7 days. Ideally, however, you should avoid walking on your lawn for 2-3 weeks. This isn’t easy for some, particularly if you have toddlers and pets. But with a little discipline, your lawn will become established. How Low Should You Mow? Ah, the eternal question. For the very reasons cited above, wait at least 7 days before mowing your lawn. In the early stages, lightly mow your lawn on a high setting. Although some recommend leaving the clippings on the lawn, we don’t to prevent the build of thatch. As the seasons roll, change your approach. Mow high during the summer and winter months, shaving no more than a third off of the blades. In the cooler months of Spring and Autumn your lawn will grow at a relaxed pace allowing you to mow sparingly and a touch lower.
