Business Office Attire Determining what to wear as business office attire, you must ascertain what it means to be business informal, business casual, and smart casual for your workplace. Business informal is defined as conservative atmosphere with a suit for women and suit and necktie for men. Informal attire for women in its strictest application is a suit consisting of a jacket with matching skirt or trousers, a blouse underneath, or scarf instead of blouse underneath . However, depending on the suit, you may be able to wear the jacket without a blouse or scarf and the overall look with a set of pearl necklace and earrings. The business informal is also called the international business attire or Western business attire. The business informal is a conservative form of dress, and is appropriate for nearly all formal settings that do not require white tie or black tie . Business casual was coined to give an alternative to ultra conservative atmosphere. However, what does it mean to be “business casual”? Does it mean a skirt or panty hose or jeans and T-shirts? Check with the company to determine what their business casual requirements are before choosing Jeans and T-shirt as your preferred business casual-look. However, an employment counseling office “defines business casual dress as a middle ground between business formal wear and casual wear .” The following are examples of acceptable business-casual apparel: ??For women: A reasonable length skirt or trousers of a non-jeans material combined with a top such as a dress shirt, or sweater set is acceptable. An informal dress with appropriate skirt length is also good option. ??Form men: A combination of collared shirt (such as a dress shirt or polo shirt) cotton trousers (such as khakis or blue, or dark colored trousers) with belt. Jeans are not acceptable as business casual attire trousers. A blazer or business jacket can optionally be added. ??Here is acceptable business casual look: “Dressing ‘business casual’ means staying professional with full coverage and neutral colors. But it also leaves room for something more expressive, like a jewel-toned shawl.” Aidon/Photodisc/Getty Images. “What does business casual mean for women?/ http’://tlchowstuffworks.com/style/business. Note the goal is to stay in line with the culture of the office. The above example is also suited for the “smart casual” for the business smart casual category, as distinct from business casual. Note that the lines between business casual and “smart casual” are blurred. Smart Casual is a loosely defined dress code; casual, yet “smart” (i.e., “neat”) enough to conform to the particular standards of certain Western social groups. For women, it consists of slacks or a skirt (long or short), a blouse or turtleneck, a fashionable belt. However, the above picture is suitable for a conservative office. Note however, if the office is conservative, dress conservatively for the office events as well. Appropriate here is a jacket, a vest, or a sweater coordinated to the outfit, hosiery or socks with boots, flats (leather, suede, or fabric) or mid-heel shoes. Women may wear jewelry, such as earrings, that compliment their overall outfit . For “Casual-Fridays,” no matter how relaxed an office environment it is never appropriate to dress provocatively, and that means to company picnics as well. A too-revealing outfit can prevent you from being taken seriously when it comes to job promotions . All business attire, whether casual or not, should be reflective of a professional, dignified appearance. For business dinners, office wear is appropriate (provided your workplace is not overly casual): trousers with a refined sweater or a blouse and blazer would be fine. If you're going to a work party straight from the office, try a sheath or a wrap dress in a dark shade, or "wear a suit and bring along a feminine blouse and shoes appropriate for evening-wear. ”Or you could simply swap your jewelry for something a little bolder?for example a chunky necklace instead of pearls. As for that company picnic, choose knee-length shorts and a short-sleeve top, or a sundress with sandals?nothing ripped, frayed, or strapless .
