Lighting energy consumption accounts for 20% of total global energy consumption, energy-saving lighting is undoubtedly an important way to achieve energy reduction. For residential lighting field, as people’s living standards improve, the quality requirements of the lighting gradually shifts from the traditional “need-based lighting” to “Lighting Design”, more and more lighting design integrated into the residential lighting,under the premise of meeting the needs of users living, to achieve the maximization of green energy-efficient lighting. Meanwhile, people’s understanding of lighting energy saving lighting become an important decision factor. China and Japan are Asia’s leader in lighting and consuming countries, which are responsible for assuming the important mission of disseminating the green lighting and developing the low-carbon lighting. Therefore, a research on the residential lighting of the two countries and real understanding on residential lighting between the two countries has played a positive and important role in promoting the health status of lighting, energy saving and harmonious development between man and the natural environment. Based on the Sino-Japanese joint research project of the residential lighting, lighting recognize degrees of the residents in both countries, subjective evaluation and objective testing of residential lighting state and other aspects of the investigation, to analyze the understanding between the residents of the lighting and residential lighting level status , differences, and the room for improvement in residential lighting. The survey select the Sino-Japanese ordinary family homes for the survey, of which China has investigated 401 families that were from Dalian Polytechnic University Teachers and students’ family. Including Liaoning, Dalian, 200, 106 other cities in Liaoning, Zhejiang, Hebei, Shanxi, Henan, Inner Mongolia and other provinces 95. In Japan, Nara Women’s University, Shiga PrefecturalUniversity, Kyoto Women’s University Teachers and Students household survey, investigated a total of 216. Wherein for family composition, two generations of children mainly accounted for the largest proportion in China and Japan , accounting for 51.9% and 67.2%, and secondly, Chinese descendants three generations with the couple generation is main, which is about 19%, Japan is descendants three generations, 16.6%; for the residential construction year, majority of residential is built nearly decade in China ,which is up 72.1%, the residential of the 1990s accounted for 21 percent,while the majority of the proportion is 90’s in Japan, the proportion accounted for 38.6%, and the remaining years evenly distributed; for the residential buildings area, the middle-sized 70m ~ 120m mainly concentrated in China, accounting for 61.1% of the proportion.
