Lighting energy consumption accounts for 20% of total global energy consumption, energy-saving lighting is undoubtedly an important way to achieve energy reduction. For residential lighting field, as people’s living standards improve, the quality requirements of the lighting gradually shifts from the traditional “need-based lighting” to “Lighting Design”, more and more lighting design integrated into the residential lighting,under the premise of meeting the needs of users living, to achieve the maximization of green energy-efficient lighting. Meanwhile, people’s understanding of lighting energy saving lighting become an important decision factor. China and Japan are Asia’s leader in lighting and consuming countries, which are responsible for assuming the important mission of disseminating the green lighting and developing the low-carbon lighting. Therefore, a research on the residential lighting of the two countries and real understanding on residential lighting between the two countries has played a positive and important role in promoting the health status of lighting, energy saving and harmonious development between man and the natural environment. Based on the Sino-Japanese joint research project of the residential lighting, lighting recognize degrees of the residents in both countries, subjective evaluation and objective testing of residential lighting state and other aspects of the investigation, to analyze the understanding between the residents of the lighting and residential lighting level status , differences, and the room for improvement in residential lighting. The survey select the Sino-Japanese ordinary family homes for the survey, of which China has investigated 401 families that were from Dalian Polytechnic University Teachers and students’ family. Including Liaoning, Dalian, 200, 106 other cities in Liaoning, Zhejiang, Hebei, Shanxi, Henan, Inner Mongolia and other provinces 95.
