Your reputation is very important as a big-name chef. Not only should you lead your team by making sure they are well-prepared for the task of serving sophisticated patrons, you also have to have a staff that is well-trained and experienced. If you are not a people person, it may be difficult to be a top chef. Use the experience you gained while working your way up the ladder to apply it to the leadership position. Working in every aspect of the kitchen that you can will give you a large number of tools and knowledge that top chefs must have. Managing a kitchen can give you the kind of experience that a restaurant owner needs to deal with every aspect of running a business. It will also do you a lot of good to work under a big-name chef directly for some time and learn all you can from them. Traveling is a great way to learn from different chefs, learn new dishes, and gain experience with different cultures. Having plenty of dishes in your arsenal will open more opportunities to cook for different types of people and make the menu at your restaurant more diverse. This will allow you to expand your customer-base and make you a well-rounded cook. You should learn what wines go well with certain dishes and food combinations that work well together, this will be a sign of your professional capabilities. Starting off from the ground-level, enrolling in culinary programs, and getting your certification in culinary arts, is just the beginning to what can become an exciting adventure to become a top chef in the U.S. It will take time, effort, and passion to reach the top of this profession but, if you are truly doing what you love then it should be a fun journey.
