In this article, we are going to talk about the different tools that can be used to create deep holes. Deep holes are actually defined by depth or the diameter. Deep holes are used in different materials like wood, cement or concrete, fiber glass, or even the super alloys. The tools used for making deep holes should be powerful, precise, and should come with customizable control, in order to create a straight finished deep hole. Deep hole drilling are used in several industries like: - Gas mining - Armaments - Production of aerospace equipment - Production of engines - Machining These are just some of the industries that use deep hole drilling, but in reality, there are so much more. So far, there are several common tools used for deep hole drilling. They are the Gundrill, STS (Single Tube System), and the Ejectors. Let us define each in the following paragraphs below, in order to know more about them. Gun drill Deep Hole Drilling Tool During the early days, the gun drills are commonly used for the production of firearms. Today, it serves many industries in different applications. It can drill holes up to .03 inches in diameter. This is good for making small deep holes, using hallow tubes that goes down the material. STS (Single Tube System) Deep Drilling Tool The STS was actually developed, in order to have a better alternative to gun drills, because it can prevent friction build-up. The STS deep drilling tool uses a coolant surrounding the drill, which makes it very good in creating deep holes in a faster and more precise way. The STS can drill holes with a diameter of up to .05 inches, which means, the STS can create slightly larger holes, compared to the gun drills. The STS deep drilling tool also has interchangeable and replaceable drill heads too, so you can easily change it, depending on your preferred diameter, or if the drill heads start to wear off. Ejector Deep Hole Drilling Tool This type of deep drilling tool works and performs just like the STS tool. The only difference is – it comes with a single shaft only, and it comes with an inner and outer drilling tube. That being said, the ejector deep drilling tool gives the user the convenience of ejecting the drilled particles easily and fast. The ejector deep drilling tool can create holes up to a maximum of .75 inches in diameter. It is also great for materials that create a lot of particles during the drilling process. BTA Deep Hole Drilling Tool This type of deep hole drilling tool can create holes up to a diameter of 24.8 inches. It uses a coolant to avoid friction that is introduced to both inside and the outside of the drill. It also has a mechanism that ejects the particles inside easily, and it normally has high penetration power, compared to the gun drill deep drilling tool. These are the different deep drilling tools that can create holes in different diameters. The said tools are used in various industries that require deep hole drilling.
