Stone walls endure the tests of time because the porous, organic materials resist rusting and rotting. Unfortunately, stone walls will not withstand every obstacle and often the walls begin to crumble and fall loose, sink into the ground, become covered in vines or get knocked down by vehicles or falling trees. Rebuilding a stone wall to patch broken areas is a very similar process to the initial construction, differing only in that you do not have to locate as many new stones when rebuilding. Instructions as follows: Firstly, don the appropriate attire for your project. You need to wear work gloves, work boots, a long-sleeved shirt and work pants to protect yourself from sharp stones. Secondly, place all loose stones from the area inside a wheelbarrow to more easily access them as you rebuild the wall. Gather only loose stones lying on the ground or near the wall and not loose stones from the top of the remaining portion of the stone wall. Thirdly, remove any vines and growth covering the portions of the stone wall. This provides you with a better view of the stone wall for both aesthetics and to aid in the reconstruction process. You should also remove any fallen trees that lie over top of the stone wall before you get started replacing the stones in the wall. Fourthly, locate any areas of the stone wall that swoop down and have a much lower top level than the rest of the wall. Focus your rebuilding efforts on these areas first, building the wall up to an average height throughout the length of the wall. Fifthly, replace the stones to the low areas of the wall by simply stacking the stones back on top of the lower stone layers. Try to fit the stones together according to shapes. You may need smaller, filler stones the size of gravel to fill any gaps between stones and create firmer, stronger walls. As you build up these areas of the wall, also try to taper the wall in as you move upwards, as this reduces the chances that the stones will fall out of place. Sixthly, continue adding stone back to the wall until you reach the top. Do not place filler in this top layer, unless you notice it in the surrounding parts of the wall. Instead, try to use broad, flat stones to cover the tops of the walls and hide any irregularities and off-level areas in the top surface. Tips & Warnings To prevent injuries to your back while lifting and replacing thestone block, you may consider wearing a back support belt while you work. Finally, let me have a short conclusion. As a popular business E-platform of promoting stone industry, we have been continuously merging all kinds of resources together, in which regard not only have we realized the strategic combination of Stones Yellow Pages and overseas famous stone magazines, but also our good cooperation with overseas stone associations and organizations.
