Tarpaulins or more commonly known as tarps has always been an important consumer commodity. The versatility that these items offer is actually the main reason behind their ever rising market demand. You can utilize it for covering equipments, hay bales, marines, wind breaks or anything that requires complete insulation from wind or water. It actually depends upon your usage as to which type of tarp you would require. Depending upon your purpose you can choose between the color and material. Mainly there are three general varieties of tarpaulins namely, medium, light and heavy duty ones. Heavy duty ones are utilized for works that involves a higher risk of wear and tear and therefore there are made from a much durable and everlasting fabric. The common varieties of these items employed generally by people are. Canvas Tarpaulins: It forms as one of the most commonly used materials for tarpaulins. They are generally made from cotton ducks or even polyester. Canvas tarps are generally employed for domestic purposes and the heavy duty ones of this variety at construction sites or as temporary tents. They are quite durable but suffer from the issues of mildew, rotting, ripping and leaks. These are a better option if used for general applications but are not useful if you are searching for a rip-free and waterproof tarpaulin. Polyester Tarpaulins: This variety of tarp employs polyethylene synthetics as their base material. They are light weighted and are very much stronger and durable than the one made from canvas. Another important benefit of such tarps is that they are 100% water resistant. This makes them an ideal choice for protecting hay-bales, equipments and other water sensitive items. Polyester tarps are also tear resistant; hence they have a much longer life. Nowadays even ultraviolet resistant and silver colored variety of these synthetic ones is available in the market. They are useful where you want to protect your items from the radiations of the sun; moreover the outer silver coating reflects the rays and inhibits heat development inside the covered area. This has also given them other name i.e. heavy duty silver tarps. The choice of tarp actually depends on your purpose and need. For basic needs canvas ones are good but for a heavy duty application polyethylene synthetic ones are better suited.
