BRT Announces Music Finds The Right Note In Ballarat Ballarat Regional Tourism announced that Organs of the BallaratGoldfields festival attracted more than 6,000 tourists. In 1995, a renowned Italian organist, composer, and teacher by thename of Sergio de Pieri visited Ballarat and became fascinated bythe number of wonderful unmodified nineteenth century pipe organsscattered throughout the Central Highlands Goldfields area of Victoria . He immediately decided that Ballarat would be a perfect place fora festival. Since then, the city has hosted what would later be known as the"Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields," a festival of finemusic held annually. This year's event, which was recentlyconcluded last January 22, proved to be another great success,showcasing the region's fascination with fine music. The city'smost prominent historic venues came alive with music as they hostedtwenty-three recitals for the duration of the event. Sir DonaldGeorge Bradman's granddaughter Greta Bradman, a soprano singer,headlined the wildly successful opening weekend of the festival. She was accompanied by renowned organist and composer Dr CalvinBowman. Though the festival is over, lovers of music will still have another reason to visit the city. The University of Ballarat Pipe Band hosted the 2012Australian Pipe Band Championships on April 6-8 at the EurekaStadium. This event draws thousands of participants and spectatorsduring the Easter holiday weekend. Spectators of this event willenjoy gourmet food and wine sourced from the region while beingtreated to the amazing aural sensation of a pipe band in fullflight. Festivals such as these have helped to rank Ballarat as the thirdmost popular destination in Victoria.
