What is the Right Carpet Cleaning for Old Smell Problem in Carpeting

Home Improvement,Fashion & Cosmetics,Health
Old carpet and the pad beneath it can hold a number of pollutants: dust, mites, pet dander and odors, accumulated dirt, Carpeting. Carpet cleaners can only eliminate the carpet odor for a short time. If you have really old carpets, you may need to remove it.

There's nothing less inviting than walking into a home with a bad smell. In short, a clean home is generally a pleasant smelling home. Vinegar and bleach are wonderful cleaning agents that also remove strong odors.By the time you notice that your carpet has a smell, the odor has probably permeated the carpet fibers themselves, so simply vacuuming up the particles isn't enough to freshen the room. Rather than using aggressive chemicals to clean your carpet, use baking soda. This non-toxic, environmentally friendly substance deodorizes carpet fibers and leaves the room smelling clean.

How to Do This

Sprinkle baking soda liberally over the carpet. Let it sit for 30 minutes. Have your family stay out of the room while the baking soda settles into the carpet, so they don't accidentally breathe in the powder or track it around the house.

Carpet foam cleaners may be necessary to get rid of carpet odor when baking soda is not sufficient to deal with the issue. The foam cleaners are sprayed in an even coating on the surface of the carpet. Depending on the usage instructions, the foam is allowed to soak into the carpeting and dry to a powder or is worked into the pile of the carpet using a sponge mop. Once the product has been left in place for the specified time, the residue is vacuumed off the carpet, leaving behind odor free carpeting.

Vacuum the carpet thoroughly. To keep the carpet smelling fresh in the future, vacuum more often, ideally twice a week.

Replace the vacuum bag when it fills up. Dab a few drops of a pleasant-smelling essential oil, such as bergamot, orange, cinnamon or lavender, onto a cotton ball. Add the cotton ball to the new vacuum bag. Every time you vacuum, the smell of the oil will release into the room, leaving the carpet smelling sweet and fresh.

No matter how clean you keep your home, old carpets accumulate stains and appear dingy. While many carpet cleaning solutions and stain removers contain harsh chemicals and emit strong odors, a few common household products can clean your carpets effectively. You can make homemade cleaners odorless if you have sensitivities to strong scents or add some natural scents for an extra clean smell. As an additional benefit, you can save money by making your own homemade carpet cleaners.

Different odors need different processes to eliminate them, although you can use similar cleaning equipment. Gather some household ingredients and a few appliances and thoroughly deodorize carpets.
