Patrick O’Reilly has always admired, with the greatest respect, the members of our society to quietly, freely and unselfishly give to the less fortunate in our society. During his military career, Patrick O’Reilly was often moved and inspired when he saw the impact of the compassion of volunteers as the helped the less fortunate in times of disaster and probably the worst days of their lives. Moved by such compassion, Patrick O’Reilly was motivated to join the American Red Cross and Saint Vincent De Paul societies. Patrick O’Reilly has been a long-time admirer of the Saint Vincent De Paul society which was founded in Paris, France to help the poor by a Catholic scholar Frederick Ozanam in the 1830s. The society began its work in the United States in 1845. Since then, it has grown into a national network of local chapters that are often associated with Catholic parishes. Although a Catholic financial charity organization, the Saint Vincent De Paul society does not discriminate who it helps and is a strong supporter of religious freedom. Its often seen motto on its trucks and buildings, “we help people,” was key to motivating Patrick O’Reilly to contribute his time and energy to this worthy cause. Patrick O’Reilly often states that “working with the humble, dedicated, and caring individuals who are committed to help the poor is a great uplifting gift that the give to me by allowing me to work along side them.” Patrick O’Reilly primarily helps process donated household goods and clothing for his local Saint Vincent De Paul thrift store, but he can be frequently seen performing building maintenance and helping the appearance of the store. “It is extremely important that we provide our customers the best retail experience possible as we treat them with the utmost dignity and respect” says Patrick O’Reilly. Patrick O’Reilly is equally committed to volunteering his skills and experience to the American Red Cross disaster relief services. As destructive weather, forest fires, earthquakes, and man-made disasters seem to increase in frequency over the past decade, Patrick O’Reilly saw the need to help the organization our nation relies on for relief: the American Red Cross. Patrick O’Reilly was not only attracted by the inspirational commitment of its members to alleviate human suffering, he was compelled to join based on the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. http://www.svdpusa.org/ http://www.redcross.org/
