These have shown to have reduced levels of hazardous contaminants and a high amount of nutrients. It contains water soluble nutrients. It is an effective soil conditioner and organic fertilizer. The process of making this product is known as vermin composting. Chemical agriculture based fertilizers and other chemicals are not recommended for agricultural use. This is because constant input of such substances affects productivity and causes soil infertility. Many farmers are now becoming aware about the damaging effects of using chemicals for growing crops. They are now moving to an alternative option which aims at sustainable solutions. There are many benefits of using this product some are discussed below. Healthy Soil: According to experts soil should have many beneficial bacteria and micro organisms to provide the ideal conditions for crops to grow well and have a good yield. The farmers should manure the soil properly for to make sure that production of humus and recycling of plant nutrients are not inhibited. The first and most important step of this process is chose the right earthworms. There are mainly 4 types of earthworms which are used to compost. They are popularly called manure worms. They can be easily grown on vegetable, poultry droppings, animal dung and other bio degradable wastes. The excretions of the worms are the material which makes up the organic manure. According to statistics if one millions worms are there in an acre then they will produce 500 kg manure per acre. So they will totally produce 200 tons a year. Essential Nutrients: Vermi Compost can be effective to supply nutrients to plants. The cast produced by the worms consists of high amount of organic matter, essential nutrients and growth regulators for making the soil productive. There is no fixed method for manufacturing this product. Any cement, cardboard, plastic and wooden container of various sizes can be used. Vegetable wastes shredded in small pieces, poultry droppings or dried pig, horse, sheep, cattle dung is ideal food for worms. Mixing cattle dung with water in 1:1 ratio helps to enhance the quality of the production. The feed should be placed uniformly in a layer. It should be placed on culture bed. It must be replenished when it is invisible from the surface. The composting process will take around 45 to 60 days. The material will change into a dark brown powder which looks like coffee powder. When the material is ready the watering must be stopped for 2 to 3 days. The worms will move towards the bottom as there will be some moisture left at the bottom. Conclusion: It can be said that even a few years back the farmers were reluctant to use these kinds of fertilizers. But now after they have seen the yield generated using bio fertilizers they are eagerly using them for their crops.
