MYTH: low metabolic rate is the reason for my weight gain: TRUTH: as people gain weight, they not only increase the body fat but also the number of muscles to support the fats. 20 to 30 percent of body’s excess weight is due to muscle. As muscle tissue burns the calories. So, the more muscle someone has, the greater is their metabolic rate. The truth is the more someone weighs, the higher is their metabolic rate. However, this does not include burning calories through physical activities. MYTH: weight gain is genetic and inevitable with age: TRUTH: there is no gene call fat gene that gets transferred from the parents to their children. The truth is when parents are fat, they have a history of unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits which in turn teach their children. These unhealthy habits are passed down from the family tree. Also studies show that, the right kind of foods you at and the workout regime influence your weight as you age.
