Personally, this topic has led me to spend a lot of time on my marketing… revising copy on my website and reviewing the frequency and clarity of the call to action on the follow up emails I send. One concern many solo entrepreneurs have about marketing is being too visible, as if it's a bad thing. If you are consistently marketing your business you might feel like you're bugging people, but don't worry you're not. (Disclaimer: we're assuming the people on your list put themselves there willingly and were not added without their consent) A recent situation perfectly illustrates this. My husband just purchased a product from someone who's been marketing to him online for 3 years. He purchased a marketing/lead generation system which may seem odd since I also sell a marketing system but it's actually not. The reason I say this is to share how important it is to learn from multiple sources. Everyone has their own style of teaching so even if you're selling the same thing, it will always be different because no one teaches it exactly the same. This is also why you don't need to worry about competition. There is no one exactly like you. It all started when my husband opted-in for this online marketer's free download. He's been getting promotional emails almost daily ever since. Seriously. Every few days for almost 3 years. This Marketer is the epitome of consistency. Think of the marketing you're doing. Are you doing anything that frequently? Posting on Facebook doesn't count. This guy has a format for all his emails that includes a relevant article that the people on his list would be interested in - good, quality content is the key to keeping people on your list - and his call to action is very clear. On the sidebar and bottom of every email is the offer. My husband hasn't read, or even opened, all the emails but he stays on the list because he is interested in what this guy has to say. The subject line of the email has a huge impact on how whether or not your emails get opened so it's worth putting some time into crafting a really good subject line. The point is, the next time you're wondering if you're bugging people, chances are you're not. My encouragement for you is that you will review your marketing strategy, check out the frequency of your messages and the call to action.
