The industries for landscaping in UAE seems to be a very strong and booming sector. Due to the persistent growth in the new infrastructure and public utilities, the demand for landscaping has increased drastically. A survey conducted recently reveals that the garden and landscaping sectors would be contributing 10 percent to the Dhs2.63 trillion worth construction industry. Owing to this reason, various international companies have entered this productions in UAE who offer carpentry, stonework, lighting and irrigation within the space available. ample awareness exhibitions have been held to emphasise sustainable development and preserving environment. The government entities in UAE have shown interest in investing in sectors like landscaping to address issues regarding environmental concerns. Many new aspects were prevalent from these exhibitions. Concentrating on the local plant species and other ornamental plants in landscaping is given importance. Landscaping in UAE has been facing a new phase lately. In contrast to the usually import driven sector, this is changing to be large export and re-export sector. Most of the native and ornamental plants are being exported. According to the recent figures, the total export of plants and non-fertiliser items amounts to Dhs48m.The international conferences and exhibitions held in the landscaping sector in UAE gave an opportunity for local professionals to acclimatise to the latest trends used world-wide. Many new trends have been in practice since these exhibitions were held. Landscaping techniques that are eco-friendly are given priority which includes use of non-indigenous plants having been replaced with use of local vegetation and shrubbery. This has an added advantage in consuming less water by the native plants which are environmental friendly too. Maintenance of these landscapes is done by using recycled water in water-scarce areas. There is a huge cost reduction due to mulching also. The eco-friendly landscapes benefit by using organic herbicides instead of chemical ones to kill weeds. Use of landscaping fabrics, organic pre and post emergent herbicides and soil solarisation are gaining popularity. Landscape maintenance is done by installing remote controlled poles that would send messages automatically if maintenance is required. Due to humungous opportunities available in this sector, youngsters are taking interest to learn new courses and career in landscaping and architecture. Landscaping enables one to make the best use of outdoor space by using the concepts of science and construction with environmental and social considerations. This has encouraged many universities to research on use of native plants in landscaping. Professors in the department of applied biology from inestimable universities have been receiving financial support to carry out this research which is about Dhs3.67 for landscaping in UAE .
