Port Blair Tourism Is The Most Exotic Beach Destination In India

Travel & Tourism
Long stretched beaches with panorama of lush mangrove fringes and pristine beauty of turquoise sea, this is Port Blair. This capital of Andaman and Nicobar islands is the largest city of this Union Territory. Inhabited by the people of different states, it has a diverse culture like any other Indian city. Whether you love adventure sports, like to do sightseeing, or just want to spend quality time in tranquility of nature, it has something for everyone. The ancient monuments, striking beaches, water sports, and other interesting places to see are the highlights of Port Blair tourism.

Places to visit in Port Blair:

Cellular Jail:

It is a monument dedicated to the freedom fighters of Indian independence and represents the sacrifices made by them. The jail was built in the period of British rule in India to keep prisoner in the isolated place. Once called as ‘Kala pani’, it is now transformed into the historical National Monument.

Corbyn’s Cove:

It is the beach closest to Port Blair popular for watching the sunset. It is quite suitable for water sports like swimming and surfing. This picturesque beach with fringes of coconut palms lets you unwind in cool wafts of the crystal blue sea in this island.

Mini Zoo:

It offers the rare species of prevalent fauna of this island. Located at Hadoo, it has a library and wide variety of these species peculiar to this place.

Samudrika Marine Museum:

It is run by Indian Navy at Delanipur in Andaman. It showcases some exquisite varieties of corals, rare species of fish, and shells. It takes on a guided tour of the history, geography, environment, people, archeological importance, and marine life of these islands.

Marina Park and Aquarium:

Located near water sports complex, this park is gifted by nature with its immaculate beauty, lush foliage, and spectacular waves. The aquarium houses many rare varieties of fish and turtles. It also offers great fun to the kids with a children’s park and toy train.

Ross Island:

This island was the seat of erstwhile British Empire and still has reminiscences of their existence in the form of a commissioner’s residence, State ball room, an old bakery, Presbyterian Church, and a swimming pool. This entire island is managed by Indian Navy which has also set up a museum here to depict its past glory.

Mount Harriet:

It is the highest peak of South Andaman with an elevation of 365m. This summer capital of Commissioner during the British Regime offers breathtaking views of the Madhuban Forest, Indian Ocean, Ross Island, and Port Blair city.

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park:

This huge park at Wandoor consists of 15 islands and several creeks with an open sea. It is the only park of its kind in the world where you can catch a glimpse of underwater life including corals, sea turtles, shells, mollusks, salt water crocodiles, and other rare species of marine life through glass bottom small vessels. Jolly Buoy and Red skin islands with thick mangrove and tropical woods are also covered under this area so they can be easily explored from here.

Port Blair hotels:

Being a popular tourist location, hotels in Port Blair are generally over booked. The beaches and monuments have many proximal lodging options preferred by the visitors. There are many budget hotels with reasonable facilities while many luxury and deluxe hotels with high class amenities as well as quaint views.
