Why Oh Why Do People Get Tattoos? We see tattoos all over the place; go anywhere in public where there are a lot of people and look to see if you can see any tattoos. Chances are, you will see quite a few, unless everyone is wearing sleeves and pants. For example, I went to a Cubs game this summer and there were about 30,000 people in attendance; while walking around, I noticed that for every 20 people I looked at, about 8 of them had a tattoo (on their arm, hand, leg, or foot. None on the face, thankfully). Bottom line, tattoos are common and bountiful. Why do people get tattoos, though? What is the reasoning behind the decision for someone to get a tattoo? The reality, we do not know every reason since who knows why anyone truly does anything, everyone is different; however, we can give a few reasons that have been ranked as top reasons for people to get tattoos. Now these reasons for getting tattoos are not quite in rank of popularity or anything like that, they are simply listed in this order. Do remember that these are all popular reasons, though. The first popular reason people get tattoos is because they want to remember a loved one, either a family member or a friend. Perhaps the most common form of this tattoo is getting a tattoo of the name of a loved one. It is quite popular for people to get tattoos of the name of someone they were involved with, especially if the two were married. Of course, we know how this really backfires if the couple splits and then the person, or both people, are stuck with the name of their former lover on their body. This scenario often leads to getting a tattoo removal procedure because the person wants to forget their ex and move on. Another example of this is to get the name of a loved one who has passed on. It is a way to remember the person and still have them in your life and part of you. A second reason for people to get tattoos is because of their religion. Sometimes firemen, policemen, etc. get tattoos for the same reason. Also, military, firemen, policemen, etc. get tattoos as a badge of brotherhood to create that unity between them & their comrades. A fourth reason for the popularity of tattoos is because it is fun and wild. Sometimes people think they are fun and wild because they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Sometimes people just think they will look sexier or tougher with a tattoo. This is another common reason for tattoo removal procedure . People get tattoos for many reasons so these four were just a sampling. Sometimes people have a story to tell and their tattoos do it for them.
