A bathroom with black granite vanities and counters gives you multiple design directions. Go sleek and contemporary by using a cool color palette of silver and gray. Or you can warm the room with beige and brown tones to give the space a traditional style. While some believe the saying that “black goes with anything,” be cautious not to apply that conventional wisdom when you make your decorating choices. Limit your color palette to one or two colors when decorating to maintain a look that’s balanced and well coordinated. Instructions as follows: Firstly, use a paint pallet that ties in with the use of black granite. Select neutral shades such as white, beige or gray to make the black “pop” and to give the bathroom a genderless appeal. Work with primary colors such as red, sky blue or lime green to give the bathroom a contemporary flair. Select pastel colors such as pink, yellow or lavender for a softer look. Secondly, accessorize the bathroom with items that tie-in with the wall color, such as toothbrush holders, soap dishes and lotion dispensers in shades of colors from the same family as the color used on the stone walls. Or select from chrome or brass. Use towels that contrast with the wall color for an extra pop of color. For example, use red towels with a gray wall color. Thirdly, consider giving the room pizazz by using animal prints. Go for zebra print patterns in an all black and white bathroom, or leopard prints with brown and black, and coordinate with beige-colored bath and guest hand towels and accessories and paint the walls beige. Look for shower curtains in animal prints to carry out the theme. Keep towels in the same color family so the look of the bathroom remains tidy and consistent. Fourthly, use either black frames for artwork, or metal finishes that match silver or gold faucets. Select artwork that complements the style of the bathroom, such as modern art or photography for a contemporary look, or botanicals and landscape scenes to complement a more classic and traditional bathroom style. Think about giving a theme to the artwork such as photographs of famous fountains from around the world, nautical scenes or paintings of European seaports. Go through your own collection of photographs to look for images that you can frame and to display on the granite bathroom countertops. Fifthly, consider painting the baseboards and windowsills black to give the bathroom a dramatic look, or switch from painted baseboards to high-gloss black porcelain tiles. Sixthly, focus on glass and silver decorative accent pieces for a bathroom with black granite block and gray walls to keep the look contemporary and sophisticated. Seventhly, consider gold and brass accents in a bathroom painted beige, and one that has stained or varnished wood baseboards or molding, to maintain a warm and cozy look. Eighthly, update or change the style of faucet hardware or convert to a vessel sink that sits on top of the vanity to give the room a fresh look. Explore new styles such as tall and curved stainless steel for a modern look, brushed nickel to give the room a European ambiance or go retro and switch to classic white porcelain hand-turn faucet knobs. Ninthly, pick up the main accent color to use as the basis for rugs or carpeting. Select a solid color to “anchor” the room, ties in with the color of the walls and won’t fight against colors and designs of decorative accessories, artwork and bath linens. Consider a flooring makeover and convert to black marble tile, slate or a classic black and white checked linoleum design to complete your bathroom re-do from ceilings to the floors. Tips & Warnings Consider using classic white towels to save money and keep the color scheme consistent. White towels are also easier to replace than having to match the same hue of colored towels.
