Once your skip has been taken away, I doubt you ever think about where your rubbish goes? You've done your part and now the skip hire company will take over and ensure your waste carries on its journey. In most cases the skip hire company will filter and sort your rubbish in to elements that can be recycled and those that cannot. Sometimes they will have their own facilities to do this or will work with a local recycling center. All waste that can be recycled will be sorted and sent off to the relevant plants, steel mills, paper mulchers etc. Unfortunately anything else is destined to end up in landfill. How ever with advances in technology the percentage of waste that ends up in landfill is dropping every year. Most skip hire companies will include the cost of sorting and filtering in the price of hire, but if you know that your site/project is going to produce large amounts of both types it would be better to get two separate small skips rather than mix them in a single large skip. There are items that cannot be placed in a skip as they are classed as Hazardous. These items must be disposed of correctly and legally. In some cases there may be an extra charge involved as some items will require specialist handling and sorting. A small selection of these items are shown below, if you have any doubts or questions, consult the skip hire company and they will be able to advise the best solution to deal with your specific requirements.
