There is much that you must master before you write a screenplay that will get made into a movie or television show, character development, plot, screenplay writing conventions. However, you also must master the art of getting your screenplay read. A whole lot of writers compose screenplays and almost all of them try to get them read. The sad fact is that most of them are never read by anyone who can make something happen with them. However, there are several steps which you can take in order to help ensure that your screenplay will actually get read. You must be able to describe in a clear and concise way exactly what makes your film special and unique from other similar films. You really have to know your script 100% in order to do this. You must know everything about it. You also have to research and get to know other similar films so that you can describe the difference when asked. It is almost a guarantee that you will be asked what separates your film from all the others. For example, if you pen a script about vampires, one of the first questions which you will be asked by movie executives is, "How is this any different from Twilight?" If you're having trouble deciding how to describe what makes your movie unique and special, here are some examples. Meet the Parents Dozens of new comedies come out every year, but what makes Meet the Parents unique is that it takes the character of Greg Focker and puts him into the challenging situation of having to ask a father for his daughter's hand in marriage. He relies on his basest instinct which is to lie to get their approval, but unfortunately his would-be father-in-law is a CIA agent, the worst person you could possibly try to lie to. Basically, Meet the Parents takes a romantic part of the human experience and turns it into something deceitful and cynical. That is what makes it unique. Taken There are hundreds of action and bodyguard type movies out there, but what makes Taken unique is the film's perspective. The main character in Taken is a retired CIA agent whose daughter is kidnapped while on a trip he did not want her to go on. He is then willing to do and risk absolutely anything to get her back. Taken plays off of the very basic fantasy of wanting to do anything possibly to protect our children from harm and to exact revenge on anyone who has harmed them. Finding Nemo There are a great number of cartoons in particular and family films in general, but what makes Finding Nemo special is that the storytelling takes place almost completely under the water and has anthropomorphic sea creatures as the main characters. Whereas most anthropomorphic cartoon characters are mammals or birds, Finding Nemo features fish in a breathtaking and beautiful way. Finding Nemo shows us a world relatively unexplored by other family films. freelance writing work
