We can buy, sell, chat, shoot, play, read, message, store, transfer money, surf and of course talk on a smart phone. In almost no time the total smart phone population is now at 1.5 billion and counting. More interestingly the age group of 25 – 34 has the highest penetration of smart phones at 62%. This generation is so used to technology and Internet on the move that it will be impossible for them to give it up. The so called phone is no longer a device to talk. It is a device to tap into the information bank. But people who have witnessed the evolution of technology will conclude that a successful technology generally lasts a decade. In the 1960s it was the mainframe. Mini Computing ruled in the 1970s. The 1980s saw the PC Computing – an era that triggered the mass adoption of computers for personal productivity. Internet revolution started in the 1990s and mobile Internet came into being in the 2000s. So the question naturally comes what next? It is critical for businesses to be ahead of this technology. Or at least be aware of it. Such knowledge is crucial for their success and survival. But whatever device comes up it can only be successful with a host of applications and support ecosystem.
