As I have mentioned many times before Spanish and English share some similarities and that is of course good news. In this hub I would like to give an example of those similarities so you can get the most out of your language learning experience. That being said let us have a look at some of those similarities. Have you ever noticed how in English some words terminate in tion? If you have ever observed that you will be glad to hear that in Spanish we have a similar thing. This is useful because you will be able to translate the words in English that terminate in tion directly to Spanish. This is not to be taken lightly, although it is very easy it will be super useful to the language student. As you might have noticed from previous hubs I’m quite keen to pass on ‘formulas.’ Let us take a look at the formula. Converting English words that finish in tion into their Spanish equivalent: take away tion and add cion. Done. It is that easy. Unbelievable, right? Again, you do not have to take my word for it, let’s just try it out. Think of a word in English that ends in tion let’s say NATION. We go to the formula, we substitute TION and we replace it with CION. Therefore NATION is said NACION in Spanish. I will find another one just to show you this is not a coincidence. Speaking of coincidence let us think of the word CONDITION. Same procedure, we go to the formula and we substitute. According to that CONDITION should become CONDICION. Too easy. No? Okay, I will do another one for you. How do you say RELATION in Spanish? Again, you would go to the formula and you would substitute TION with CION. Therefore RELATION becomes RELACION. Some more examples to get you going: PENETRATION becomes PENETRACION. CELEBRATION becomes CELEBRACION. MANIFESTATION becomes MANIFESTACION. PRODUCTION becomes PRODUCCION. OPERATION becomes OPERACION. AVIATION becomes AVIACION. POLLUTION becomes POLUCION. PORTION becomes PORCION. COLLABORATION becomes COLABORACION. PREPARATION becomes PREPARACION. REVELATION becomes REVELACION. FRACTION becomes FRACCION. PERSUATION becomes PERSUACION. IMPROVISATION becomes IMPROVISACION. CONFIRMATION becomes CONFIRMACION. These are just some examples, but there are thousands of similar words in which you can apply the same formula. There are also many cool tricks like this in the language.
