11 Bone & Joint Fractures That Are Most Common

Health
Fracture surgery is one of the most routine procedures in contemporary world of medical treatment. While there are hardly any serious risks associated with the process, it would be handy to stay aware of the bones and joints in the body, which are most prone to breakages and dislocations. As per medical reports from round the world, orthopaedic problems in the following bones and joints are the most common: 1. Knee – Problems in the knee joint can arise from osteoporosis, or from an accident and the related trauma. If left unattended to for extended periods, these problems can assume serious proportions – severely hampering the movements of the affected individuals. In most cases, doctors opine in favor of complete or partial knee replacement (depending on the extent of the damage), if medications are not delivering the desired results. 2. Jawbone – Fractures or dislocations in the jawbone can be extremely painful, and generally takes a relatively long time to heal. According to orthopaedic specialists, facial injuries are the most common cause for mal-alignment of the jawbone. Ladies have been found to be more prone to jaw damages. It takes four to six weeks (at least) to heal. 3. Hip – Arguably, the most problematic of orthopaedic damages. If someone has a heavy fall, or is involved in a serious accident, (s)he might end up dislocating his/her hip. In case this happens, there would be precious few other recourses than having a hip joint replacement – for long-term relief. Certain types of hip injuries can affect the bones of the pelvis as well, necessitating pelvic fracture surgery in India as soon as possible. 4. Collarbone – Fractures in the collarbone feature among the most common types of sporting injuries. The clavicle bones and joints can also lose their normal functionality, as a direct result of collarbone damages. Any qualified orthopaedic doctor would advise kids to put on proper protective guards, to protect the shoulders from the effects of rough collisions. Shoulder joint replacement operation is generally the only remedial measure to do away with the problems arising from collarbone fractures. 5. Fingers and toes – Hairline fractures in the fingers and toes are pretty common, and generally do not require elaborate surgical procedures – provided that you consult an orthopaedic surgeon in Kolkata on time. Medical tapes and small plasters are required to keep the affected toe and finger stable, so that it heals quickly. 6. Ankle – Much like knee joint fractures, breakages in the ankle bone also have potentially serious adverse effects on the locomotion capacities of people. While jumping from a relatively high place, it would be advisable to wear stable ankle-guards, to reduce the impact of your landing on your legs. If you happen to twist your ankle badly, you might have to go for a joint replacement procedure. 7. Arm – Sprains and breakages in the bones of the forearm area typically result from trying to lift excessively high weights, or due to the impact of external shocks. While participating in sports event involving body contact, many kids also suffer this injury. While in most cases keeping the arm in a sling for about three weeks is enough to get it healed, a replacement surgery in India might be required in more aggravated arm injuries. 8. Hand – With as many as twenty-seven bones being present altogether in the hand, it is only natural that orthopaedic complications have a high chance of occurring in the upper limbs. Apart from on-road collisions, putting excessive pressure on the hand(s) during exercising or performing any other household chores can lead to fractures in the hand. The slender bones at the extremities are particularly vulnerable. 9. Spine – Damages in the spinal cord can terminally affect the physical activities of an individual. If someone has arthritic tendencies, it would be advisable for him/her to go for regular orthopaedic check-ups – and make sure that the functionalities of the spinal cord have not been compromised in any way. Of course, if it’s an on-road collision that has resulted in spinal fracture(s), even the best orthopedic surgeon in India might not be able to do much about it. 10. Nose – Yet another form of troublesome facial problem. Both single and multiple fractures in the nose bone are common, and there is an outside chance of its shape getting permanently altered during process. A full-blooded collision between two people can lead to nose fractures, and it is hardly surprising to see such cases pretty often on sporting fields. 11. Femur bone – Contrary to popular belief, a hip replacement operation cannot do away with the problems that are flared up by fractures in the femur bone. The front end of the femur encroaches in the pelvis area in such cases, and patients typically need to undergo an acetabular fracture surgery in India, to regain fitness. It is imperative to get in touch with noted orthopaedic specialists, whenever any bone damage is detected. Thanks to the steady advancement in bone treatment tools (including artificial implants) and methods, it is possible to treat practically all types of fractures. Breaking a bone is often considered to be a part of the growing up process – but won’t it be nice if you could avoid the associated hassles with orthopaedic complications?
