Well if you ever wanted to discover some facts about India, then your major attention is likely to fall on the lively festivals celebrated in the country. Just like the number of Gods worshiped in India, people here tend to celebrate a number of festivals associated with the individual deity. The one I loved the most while travelling across this beautiful country is the festival of Lights. (Diwali or famously known as Deepavali). Celebrated every year in India or rather all across the globe(By Indians), the date for Diwali depends upon the Hindu calender and thus every year the final dates vary for both Diwali and Dussehra (Another festival related to Diwali). As told earlier, Hindus tend to relate every festival with their deities , so Diwali is no different. As on this very day, it is assumed that Lord Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya after spending 14 long years in the jungle. His return to Ayodhya was marked sacred as he had not only spent that time outside his kingdom but also defeated Raavan.(An evil King) So when ever you plan to travel to this beautiful land, make such arrangements that you can witness this grand festival. The celebrations for this beautiful festival begins with Dhanteras(a special day to buy gold, vehicles, gadgets and other such things) and continues for the next four days with different days with individual importance. Also known as the festival of lights, on Deepavali, Hindus illuminate their homes with light(Diyas) and then during midnight, people tend to burn firecrackers. Well over all I can just say that the country glows on that night. And thus a very beautiful and mesmerizing scenario is created, which surely is a life time experience for any foreigner. Then one more beauty of this festival is the rule of giving and distributing sweets and gifts to relatives as well as to friends. Its almost like a crime if one fails to do so. But this indeed boost up the spirit of unity and friendship. So friends the next time you visit India, do visit the land during October- November and enjoy this energetic and lovely festival. In 2013 Diwaliwill be celebrated on Sunday, 3rd November. About Author : Shivam is a content writer who loves o write on spirituality, technology and nature.
