By Udita Chaturvedi Photography: Courtesy the designer Yamin Mustafa Mohiuddin is a self-taught interior architect and furniture designer, whose designs and creations reflect his passion and high quality standard so that “each piece is worth passing on for generations”. With over a decade of experience in the industry, Yamin has built quite a niche for himself. He believes all his products should be “aesthetic in appeal, usable in function and appreciable as art.” Yamin showcases two artistic creations, exclusively designed for the event, at the LDF 2013. The ‘Heart of wood lamp’ is an aesthetically appealing design that is close to nature. The 68-inch tall handmade lamp is primarily made with cross-sections of a log and sits on a three-legged teakwood base. The lamp shade is intricately wrapped around with hand-woven cane to add the essence of old-line traditional artwork. All his designs are a blend of classical and contemporary forms of furniture making. They are both, elaborate in appeal and customary in use and can thus, find a place in everyone's home. With an excellent sense of design to match his creative mind, Yamin’s next is a concept table, ‘The Peacock Console’ that is inspired by the national bird of India. It is handmade using 55 slats of light-weight pine wood, 33 of which form the body of the table and fit into each other giving it a twisted shape that would stand out as a beautiful centrepiece in anyone's living room. The remaining slats are tapered on the inside edges like two sets of wings of the peacock. Also, the fastened nuts have been artfully concealed with teakwood pyramid knobs that form the eyes of the bird. Yamin is dedicated to "quality, intricacy, and out-of-the-box concepts and design to turn people's dream space into reality". to view images click on www.indiaartndesign.com
