The printing industry in Brisbane has been an especially tough market for the last 3-4 years, and looks set to continue that way in the foreseeable future. We have recently moved to Annerley in Brisbane’s south, hoping to stimulate the level of new enquiry by being closer to the commercial and industrial areas. The new premises are a much better size for our requirements and we have managed to reduce our overheads as well. Needless to say, this will help us stand in better stead to weather the average market conditions as the economy slowly recovers. Uniprint QLD remains focussed on printing for small and/or medium companies, which are located in Brisbane or Queensland, Australia. We also happily accept orders from customers that are located interstate or in rural areas such as Central/ North QLD. At the moment I am delivering most orders from new customers myself in person, taking the opportunity to make a goodwill gesture and begin building a relationship with our new client. All other deliveries to attended offices are despatched with Fastway couriers. If the delivery address will not be attended, we despatch using Australia Post. If your office is unattended when delivery is attempted, the postal worker will leave a calling card, so you can arrange pick up from your nearest Australia Post outlet. We remain focussed on trying to increase the level of enquiry for the more profitable products, and move away from the products that are least profitable. Our more profitable products include banners and Poster , magnets and calendars, stickers & labels, brochures & flyers, CMYK & spot colour printing Late payment or non-payment is becoming more of an issue as the poor market conditions continue and the level of desperation increases. Previously it was nearly unheard of for long standing clients not to pay their bills on time, let alone not paying them at all. We recently had a printing client of 5 years in Archerfield, Brisbane, who ordered $5000 worth of products and still has not made payment nearly 3 months after the goods were delivered. As you can imagine, this isn’t great for our cash flow and we have lodged a claim with the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, which will hopefully be resolved within 28 days. This situation is especially frustrating as we have already incurred the cost of producing the goods, and have not received the expected payment. Lessons have been learnt and we are now much more conscious of discussing payment terms for new clients and existing customers whose 14 day payment terms have been reached.
